Co-op Bank Named Best Retail and SME Bank In Kenya At Banker Africa Awards

The CEO of CPI Financial Tony Long hands the award of Best SME Bank in Kenya to the Director Retail and Business Banking at Co-operative Bank Arthur Muchangi and the bank’s Head of Investor Relations and Strategy James Kaburu. Co-op Bank was named as Best SME Bank in Kenya and the Best Retail Bank in Kenya at the Banker Africa 2018 Awards hosted at the Radisson Blu in Nairobi.

Cooperative Bank of Kenya was one the biggest winners during this year’s Banker Awards – East African Banking Awards held in Nairobi.

The lender bagged three key awards; The Best Retail Bank in Kenya, The Best SME Bank in Kenya and the Best Investment Institution in Kenya.

The Group Managing Director and CEO Gideon Muriuki said: “We have over the years worked hard to build a model that enables us to stay close to the customer, listen to their needs and glean insights on their long-term goals that we can confidently say we are offering the most competitive value proposition that SMEs and Retail clients can expect to ever get in this market.”

Co-op Bank already enjoys significant presence in the SME and Retail banking space having negotiated and secured long-term funding from international development finance institutions essentially to fund SMEs.

The bank in the recent past secured a substantial Ksh 15.2 Billion line of credit from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for on-lending mostly to SMEs and favourable terms.

The Haul of the Winning Team: Coop Bank Team with the triple harvest of awards won at the Banker Africa 2018 Awards held at Radisson Blu Nairobi. The Bank was recognized as Best SME Bank in Kenya, Best Retail Bank in Kenya and Best Investment Institution.
