Conan Lee Gray is an American singer, songwriter, and former YouTuber born on December 5, 1998, in Lemon Grove, California.
He has Irish and Japanese heritage, with an Irish father who served in the military and a Japanese mother.
As an infant, his family relocated to Hiroshima, Japan, to care for his ailing maternal grandfather.
After his grandfather’s death, they returned to California.
His parents divorced when he was three, and he was primarily raised by his mother amid frequent moves due to his father’s military career.
His experiences growing up as a biracial child in small-town Texas, including feelings of isolation and bullying, later influenced his songwriting.
Siblings
Conan has an older sister named Alyssa Gray, with whom he shares a close bond. He has publicly described them as essentially the same person expressed differently.
He also featured her in early YouTube videos and social media posts.
Gray has also spoken of a blended family dynamic resulting from his parents’ subsequent relationships.
In a 2015 YouTube video titled “The Better Sibling Test,” he appeared with his stepbrother Josh and stepsister Megan, testing them in a lighthearted segment.
Career
Gray first gained attention through his YouTube channel, launched in 2013 under the name ConanXCanon. He posted vlogs about small-town Texas life, covers, and original songs.
He self-released his debut single “Idle Town” in 2017.
The song accumulated millions of streams and helped establish his music career.

In 2018, he signed with Republic Records. He subsequently released the EP Sunset Season, featuring tracks such as “Generation Why” and “Crush Culture.”
His debut studio album, Kid Krow, arrived in March 2020. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200.
It was driven by singles including “Maniac” and the breakout hit “Heather.” “Heather” later surged in popularity on TikTok and became one of Gray’s most recognized songs.
His second album, Superache, followed in 2022. The album entered the top ten on several international charts.
In 2024, he released Found Heaven. The album explored an 1980s-inspired synth-pop sound and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200.
His fourth studio album, Wishbone, came out in August 2025. The album marked his highest-charting project to date.
Wishbone debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top Album Sales chart.
Gray has supported his releases with multiple headlining tours.
These include the Sunset Shows, Comfort Crowd Tour, Superache Tour, Found Heaven On Tour, and the Wishbone World Tour.
Accolades
Gray has received recognition across music and digital media awards. In 2019, he won the Shorty Award for Best YouTube Musician.
He also earned a nomination for Breakthrough Artist at the Streamy Awards. He was nominated for Best Push Act at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards.
He was also nominated for Push Artist of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards. He received a nomination for Best New Artist of 2020 at the People’s Choice Awards.
In 2024, the music video for “Never Ending Song” won Best Music Video at the Tribeca Festival Awards. The video for “Vodka Cranberry” from Wishbone won a Queerty Award for Best Music Video in 2026.
It also received a nomination for Best Colour Grading at the UK Music Video Awards. Wishbone earned a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist at the 2026 GLAAD Media Awards.
