Confusion in Mombasa as two Luo factions endorse different candidates for governor

Mombasa County ODM leadership is under serious threat of disintegration with the possibility of jeopardizing the re-election of ODM Deputy Party Leader and current governor Ali Hassan Joho.
Trouble begun with a number of serving Luo MCAs, including former Speaker Thadius Rajwayi bolting out of the Joho camp, citing frustrations.
Attempts by ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga to have the Luo community in Mombasa back his deputy in ODM has failed twice, the latest being last weekend.
Today, a section of Luo leaders and elected Luo MCAs have thrown their weight behind Wiper gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar.
The group was led by Duncan Onyango, the Mikindani Ward Representative.
“We will not vote for Hassan Joho. And we, as Luo community leaders, have told him that to his face. That is why he is running to Raila Odinga to save him, and also trying to get Raila to make Senator Hassan Omar to step down for him,” reads a statement from the faction.
They added, “Our stand is very simple: we do not support Hassan Joho; we cannot support Hassan Joho; we will never support Hassan Joho; and nobody can persuade us to support Hassan Joho”.
