A construction worker died after being electrocuted while working at a building site in Mpeketoni Town, Lamu County, on Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased, identified as Moses Mwenje, was working as a labourer at a construction site within Mpeketoni Town when he came into contact with a live power line.

Police said Mwenje was carrying a pole when it accidentally touched overhead electricity lines belonging to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), resulting in a fatal electric shock.

He was rushed to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital by the reporter and other responders but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as part of standard procedure, while authorities continue to emphasize the importance of observing safety measures when working near electricity infrastructure.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was beaten to death by villagers in Migori County after he allegedly threatened his wife and children with a panga during a domestic dispute.

The incident occurred in Dago Village, Kanyasrega Sublocation, Awendo Sub-County and the deceased, identified as Gliford Otieno, appeared intoxicated when he picked a quarrel with his wife shortly after midnight.

Investigators say Otieno armed himself with a panga and chased his wife and her three children from their home following a domestic disagreement.

The woman’s distress calls reportedly attracted the attention of neighbours, including Tobias Oluoch, also known as Gift, three other individuals, and the deceased’s brother, Peter Otieno.

Police said the group, armed with crude weapons, confronted Otieno and managed to overpower him. He was allegedly tied with a rope before being assaulted.

By the time authorities arrived, Otieno had succumbed to injuries sustained during the beating. His body was found lying within his compound with visible injuries across several parts of the body.

The body was moved to Rapcom Hospital Mortuary in Awendo, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the role played by those who responded to the domestic disturbance. No arrests had been announced at the time of the report.
