A police officer was admitted to the hospital after he shot himself by accident in the leg at a police post in Dadaab, Garissa County.

The officer was checking the safety of his rifle at the station in Kulan when the weapon discharged accidentally hitting him in both legs on Monday afternoon.

Police said the officer had a fracture on one of his legs and was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

Elsewhere in Gilgil, Nakuru County, a woman was injured after she was attacked by a buffalo.

Police and Kenya Wildlife Service officials said the victim was a worker at the Marula Conservancy within Gilgil sub county. She was taking care of goats in the farm when she was goared by the buffalo.

Witnesses said she ran to safety while holding her intestines that were protruding and was rushed to the hospital in a stable condition.

Officials said they are investigating the attack.

Such conflicts have been on the rise amid campaigns to address them. They usually happen in and near the national parks and conservancies.

There is a compensation programme for the victims of such incidents.
