Francis Atwoli the COTU Secretary General was set to receive his honorary Doctorate degree on Labor Relations from Masinde University but the communication from the university is that this will not happen.

Sossion says that Francis Atwoli was given the honorary though the correct procedures and accused CS Matiang’i if interfering with institutions. He demanded that Mr Atwoli be honored as was agreed by the Masinde Muliro university council and senate.

‘It is very disturbing that the ministry of Education, which is charged with the responsibility of protecting the rights of institutions to operate independently, to interfere with the day to day running of the universities.’ Wilson Sossion wrote in a letter addressed to the Education ministry.

Francis Atwoli expressed his disappointment in the university’s decision to cancel his degree. He said that he was very excited when he received the news that he was going to be honored.
