County Governments Await Funding From The Treasury

County governments across the country have raised concerns over the delay in disbursement of county funds.

Due to the delays the Treasury Ministry has had to give counties a Sh20.3 billion advance following a disagreement by the Senate over a cash allocation law approved by the Head of State.

According to Treasury secretary, Henry Rotich, the County Allocation of Revenue Act (CARA) 2017 allocated by President Kenyatta was not the same as the one approved by Senate thus causing the delay in disbursement.

“The schedule of disbursement approved by the Senate was at variance with the CARA. The National Treasury is awaiting clarifications from the Senate on the same,” said Mr Rotich.

“In the meantime, the National Treasury advanced a total of Sh20,434,075,558 to some county governments to enable them to pay salaries and provide essential services.”

Several county projects have been put on hold and none of the 47 counties have received their individual allocations from the government.
