CS Duale Orders Fresh Probe into Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital After Downgrade

CS Duale Issues Tough New Orders On Clinical Officers' Licensing

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has ordered fresh investigations into Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital following its recent downgrade.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Duale said the government remains committed to providing quality healthcare services to all citizens.

He said the Ministry of Health took action after concerns were raised about service delivery at the hospital and alleged irregular claims submitted to the Social Health Authority (SHA).

According to the ministry, Sisto Mazzoldi Hospital is currently under active investigation by SHA over allegations of submitting inaccurate claims. As a result, the facility has been suspended from offering services under the SHA framework until the investigations are completed.

Duale also said that in November 2025, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) carried out a comprehensive regulatory assessment and downgraded the hospital from a Level IV to a Level III facility.

Following additional allegations of malpractice reported in the media, the Health CS directed KMPDC to immediately begin fresh and detailed investigations into the claims.

“I have instructed the council to carry out thorough investigations into these allegations. If any malpractice is confirmed, the council will take the strongest disciplinary action allowed under the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Rules,” Duale said.
