Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i was enraged upon finding out that foreigners of Indian descent have been awarded jobs that Kenyans are more than qualified for.
In a video doing rounds on the interwebs, the ‘no nonsense’ minister is heard criticizing a construction site manager who have been in Kenya since 2013.
“Aren’t there Kenyans who can work as site managers?” the CS poses.
Addressing Immigration Principal Secretary, Gordon Kihalangwa, Matiang’i said: “We need to categorize these things. How can you give someone a work permit to be a site manager? These things really annoy me. We cannot accept this.”
In the video believed to have been taken outside Nyayo House, the CS asks an unidentified DCI officer to look into the matter.
Kenyans online weighed in on the matter saying:

On Monday the government kick started an exercise that aims at digitizing the foreign work permit database.
This came after the government revealed that official records show only 34,000 legal foreign workers, a figure way below the actual number of foreigners in the country.
