D’Angelo Russell, often nicknamed DLo, is an American professional basketball player born on February 23, 1996.

He plays as a point guard and has had a notable career in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Known for his scoring ability, playmaking skills, and smooth shooting stroke, Russell was selected as the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers.

He has since played for several teams, including the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and later returned to the Lakers before moving to the Washington Wizards.

Russell grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he honed his skills at Montverde Academy in Florida before a standout freshman year at Ohio State University.

D’Angelo has older brothers Antonio Russell and LaShawn Gilliam, who have been supportive figures in his life and career.

Antonio and LaShawn even moved to Los Angeles to live with him during his early professional years to provide family support.

D’Angelo also has additional siblings, including a brother named Tayshaun and a sister named Cloee.

Russell’s basketball journey began in Louisville before he transferred to Montverde Academy, where he emerged as one of the top high school prospects in the country.

At Ohio State, he averaged impressive numbers in his lone college season, showcasing his scoring and passing abilities, which propelled him into the lottery in the 2015 draft.

After being picked second by the Lakers, he spent his first two seasons in Los Angeles, earning recognition as a promising young guard despite some ups and downs.

A high-profile trade in 2017 sent him to the Brooklyn Nets, where he enjoyed a breakout All-Star season in 2018-19, averaging over 20 points per game.

Subsequent trades took him to the Golden State Warriors in 2019 as part of the Kevin Durant deal and then to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020.

He returned to the Lakers in 2023, contributing to the team’s efforts during a competitive period.

Throughout his career, Russell has been known for clutch performances, deep three-point shooting, and leadership on young teams, establishing himself as a reliable veteran guard in the league.

    Accolades

Russell’s most prominent achievement came in 2019 when he was selected as an NBA All-Star while playing for the Brooklyn Nets, highlighting his status among the league’s top talents at that time.

He has also been recognized for his scoring outbursts, including multiple 40-plus point games and standout performances in high-stakes matchups.

While he has not yet won an NBA championship or major individual awards like MVP, his All-Star nod remains a key milestone, and he has consistently ranked among efficient scorers and playmakers at the guard position.
