Daniel Amendola, born on November 2, 1985, in The Woodlands, Texas, is a retired American professional football player renowned for his tenacity and clutch performances as a wide receiver in the NFL.
Growing up in a sports-oriented family, Amendola developed a passion for football early on, influenced by his father’s coaching background.
After a standout high school career and a successful stint at Texas Tech University, he carved out a 14-year NFL career, most notably with the New England Patriots, where he became a fan favorite.
Beyond football, Amendola has ventured into modeling, reality television, and coaching, showcasing his multifaceted talents.
Siblings
Danny has one sibling, an older brother named Matt Amendola.
Matt, born approximately two years before Danny (around 1983), also pursued football, playing as a defensive back for Baylor University in the early 2000s.
During his redshirt freshman season in 2000, Matt appeared in six games, recording 40 tackles, including a career-high 13 against Minnesota, and one interception.
However, his promising career was cut short by a knee injury in 2001, limiting him to six games that year and ultimately ending his playing days.
Career
Danny’s football journey began at The Woodlands High School, where he led his team to their first Texas state championship game in 2003, amassing 1,045 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.
At Texas Tech University from 2004 to 2007, he excelled as a slot receiver and punt returner, finishing with 204 receptions for 2,246 yards and 15 touchdowns, drawing comparisons to NFL star Wes Welker.

Undrafted in 2008, Amendola signed with the Dallas Cowboys, spending his rookie year on their practice squad before joining the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad in 2009.
His NFL career took off with the St. Louis Rams (2009–2012), where he played four seasons, establishing himself as a reliable receiver and return specialist.
In 2013, he signed a five-year, $28.5 million contract with the New England Patriots, where he spent five seasons and became a postseason standout, earning the nickname Danny Playoff.
He won two Super Bowls (XLIX and LI) with the Patriots and appeared in a third (LII).
After leaving New England in 2018, Amendola played for the Miami Dolphins (2018–2019), Detroit Lions (2019–2020), and Houston Texans (2021), retiring in July 2022.
