DCI Amin camps in Marsabit for security assessment

The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, continued his security assessment tour of Marsabit County with a visit to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Camp at Gas in North Horr Sub-County.
The camp is among those in the frontline and near the Ethiopia-Kenya border.

It is a useful camp in the fight against crime and in particular cattle rustling, drug trafficking and human smuggling.

He said the visit is aimed to evaluate the unit’s operational readiness, highlighting the key role ASTU officers play in fighting stock theft and improving regional security.

Amin was accompanied by senior officials, including Ibrahim Jillo, Director of the National Central Bureau at DCI, Adan Guyo, Officer Commanding the Capital Markets Fraud Investigations Unit and Samuel Kiplong, Sub-County Police Commander for North Horr, along with other senior officers.

In addition to official duties, the Director joined local community members at Galasa Jamia Mosque in the Gas area, where he participated in prayers and held a community engagement session.

He urged residents to closely cooperate with police officers, stressing that strong teamwork between communities and security agencies is vital to maintaining lasting peace and security.

“This ongoing visit highlights the National Police Service’s commitment to strengthening security, building community-police partnerships, ensuring safety and stability during this festive season,” said Amin.

Amin has been visiting far flung areas since Christmas Day to boost the ground troops’ morale.
The northern region is facing pressure from various crimes including drug trafficking, human smuggling and terrorism.

This has forced authorities to deploy more resources to address the menace.

Upon arrival, Amin was welcomed by John Kiprop, Officer Commanding ASTU M-Company at Gas.
