DCI Arrests Suspect Caught on Camera Attacking Watchman in Mombasa

Detectives from the Mombasa DCI Regional Headquarters, working with officers from DCI Urban and Tononoka Police Station, have arrested a robbery with violence suspect whose attack on a watchman was captured on video and shared widely on social media.
The video shows the suspect, armed with a panga and accompanied by another man, attacking the watchman before fleeing with his mobile phone.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers launched a manhunt for the two suspects after the video went viral. Using forensic leads, detectives traced one of the suspects, identified as Salim Keya Ngesa, to a guest house in Bondeni “A,” where he was arrested.
Police said several items were recovered during the arrest, including six mobile phones, a blood-stained panga, two knives, and a grey kanzu believed to be the one worn by the suspect during the attack as seen in the CCTV footage.
“Now behind bars, the suspect is undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, detectives are hot on the heels of his elusive accomplice, who remains on the run,” the DCI said.
