DCP Overtakes ODM as Second Most Popular Party After UDA, Poll Shows

Gachagua to Appeal High Court Decision Upholding Impeachment

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has overtaken the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to become the second most supported political party in Kenya after President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), according to a new opinion poll by Politrack Africa.

The Kenya 2027 Presidential Preference Brief, released on October 1, shows UDA leading the party rankings with 30 per cent support.

DCP follows with 11.7 per cent, while ODM is third with 10.6 per cent support.

The survey shows that 9.1 per cent of respondents declined to identify their preferred political party, while 7.3 per cent said they did not support any party.

Jubilee Party was ranked fourth with 6.9 per cent, followed by the Wiper Democratic Movement with 5.6 per cent, among other parties.

According to Politrack Africa, UDA commands support across all regions of the country, with its strongest support recorded in the North and South Rift, Northern Kenya, Maa, Mt Kenya East and Western regions.

DCP recorded its strongest support in Mt Kenya West, Mt Kenya Diaspora, Mt Kenya East and Maa regions.

Jubilee Party, meanwhile, recorded its strongest support in the Kisii-Nyanza region.

The findings come amid increased political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political parties seeking to strengthen their support bases and new alliances taking shape.

The Politrack Africa survey also places President William Ruto ahead of his potential challengers in the 2027 presidential race.

Ruto received 45.1 per cent support among respondents, according to the poll.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ranked second with 19.6 per cent, followed by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka with 10.3 per cent.

Former Cabinet Secretary and former Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i ranked fourth with 7.2 per cent.

The findings place Sifuna among the leading figures seeking to challenge Ruto in the next presidential election.

His political profile has grown following the formation of the Linda Mwananchi movement after his removal as ODM Secretary General. He is expected to unveil his political party in the coming days.

Other politicians included in the presidential preference survey are former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah, former Cabinet Secretary Martha Karua, former Chief Justice David Maraga, Siaya Governor James Orengo and businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.

The survey was conducted between September 15 and 25, 2026, and provides a snapshot of political preferences ahead of the 2027 elections.
