Detectives are investigating murder in an incident where the body of a man was found rotten in a farm borehole in Muguga area, Kiambu County.

The incident happened in Kamuguga village on Saturday.

The body was spotted by workers at the farm as they drew water from the borehole.

It had decomposed and police said it had a binding wire around its neck and cracked skull.

Indications were that the man was killed elsewhere and the body dumped in the borehole.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said adding they wanted to establish the motive of the murder.

Elsewhere in Kiamabara, Nyeri County, one Nathaniel Kinuthia, 27 drowned in a River Sagana while on a swimming expedition on January 24, 2026.

The body was yet to be removed on Saturday. His clothes were found at the banks of the river long after the incident, police said.

The search on the body continued on Sunday.

In Kitise, Makueni County, a nine-month old toddler drowned in a bucket full of water while being washed by his nine year old brother.

The toddler was found unresponsive in the bucket and moved to the mortuary for postmortem, police said.

The mother of the baby told police she had left the child under the care of the siblings when the incident happened on Saturday.

In Mbiri, Kirinyaga County are investigating the death of a man in his house. The body of Elias Kariuki, 46 was decomposing when it was discovered on Saturday January 24, police said as they moved it to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

And police on January 24 participated in an exhumation of a body that had been buried in Gesabakwa, Manga, Nyamira County.

This was out of mistaken identity. After an investigation it was established that the buried body was of Tanzanian national Jeremiah Temba, 43 instead of that of Daniel Onyoni, 53. The body of Onyoni was later moved from Nairobi where he died to the area for burial while that of Temba was moved to Nairobi.
