Decomposed body of man found in Mathare River

A decomposed body of a man was found floating on Mathare River in Nairobi.

The body was discovered on February 5, 2026 by locals who informed the police.

Police said the man may have either drowned or murdered and thrown into the river elsewhere before the body was swept to the scene.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.

Meanwhile, police in Siakago, Embu County are investigating an incident where one John Murimi, 25 was electrocuted in a shallow well while trying to pump water from the scene.

It was discovered the deceased was trying to use a submerged pump to pump water to his miraa farm in the area when he was electrocuted. This was after a live naked wire touched the water as he also stood inside the well.

His brother who had run, concerned about the failure to see the water flow as anticipated, went to check on him when he found him dead.

Police were called to the scene and helped to move the body to the mortuary pending other procedures.

Elsewhere in the Tumutumu area, Meru County, Kenya Wildlife Service officials captured a three-meter-long python from a village after locals raised an alarm.

The snake was found in a miraa farm before locals called the KWS officials for its capture. The officials took it away even as the locals demanded to kill it.

And police are investigating an incident where a group of protesters broke into the municipal offices in Malaba, Busia County and vandalized property. The group also stole four laptops, three mobile phones, eight fire extinguishers, five computer desktops and other valuables in the drama.
