Decomposed body of man found in thicket in Marsabit

Detectives are investigating an incident where the decomposed body of a man was found in a thicket after a suspected murder in Qate area, Moyale, Marsabit County.

The body lay in a thicket where it was probably dumped almost a week ago, police and locals said. The body was discovered on February 25 by locals who alerted police.

The police said they were yet to identify the man and establish the motive.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police said on Thursday no arrest had been made so far.

Elsewhere in Tarassa, Tana River County, the body of a man was found along Minjila-Malindi Road after a suspected murder.

The man was blindfolded and had visible injuries in the head and was identified as Kelvin Opiyo, 37. He is believed to have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the site.

There were marks of vehicle tyres at the scene indicating he was dumped there by a car. The body was picked up to the mortuary for autopsy, police said adding they were investigating the murder incident. The motive was yet to be revealed by Thursday hours after the body was discovered.

In Macalder, Migori County, a miner was killed in an accident at a gold mining site.

Police said Philip Ochieng, 29 was working at the site in Kalwal area and was repairing a shaft when he slid and fell into a hole.

He was rescued and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said such deaths have been on the rise in the area. There are also calls for action to be taken to ensure safety of the miners in the sites.

Dozens of people have in the past year died at the sites while others were left with injuries.

The victims were miners who were venturing into the sites for a living.
