Decomposed body of police officer found dead inside house in Eldoret

Boy shot and killed by friend in Laikipia ranch were hunting hyena, officials say
A police officer stationed at Eldoret Police Station was found dead inside his house in Mwisho wa Lami Estate, Uasin Gishu County.
The cause of the death was not immediately known and the body had decomposed when it was found, police said.
The body of Police Constable Stanley Kiptoo Arusei was discovered on Friday, October 2, 2026, after residents reported a foul smell coming from his house.
According to police, the caretaker of Plot 60 was alerted by a tenant at around 4pm that a foul smell was coming from a neighbouring house occupied by the officer.
Police officers who responded to the report found the house locked from the inside. They forced their way into the house and discovered the body of a male adult.
A search inside the house led to the recovery of an identification card bearing the name Stanley Kiptoo Arusei. The body had no visible injuries and was slightly decomposed.
Police suspect the officer may have died two to three days before his body was discovered.
The body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret for preservation and postmortem examination.
Investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
Police said they suspect he died in sleep or by suicide.
