Deputy President William Ruto had to explain his wardrobe choice for attending an event held at the Supreme Court on Thursday morning.
Speaking during the release of the Judiciary’s 2017/18 report, the DP apologized for his dressing noting that he was not informed of the event earlier hence his choice of clothes.
He added: “I want to apologize to the Chief Justice. I was dressed to go for another occasion out of town but then the President asked me to come with me.”
Dr Ruto was dressed on a checked grey coat, maroon tie, white shirt and a black pair of trousers during the function that was also attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“It is a pleasure to accompany the President here. When I look around, I am the only one here who is out of place because I am not appropriately dressed,” stated Ruto.

He further explained that his dress code was in no way out of disrespect for the Judiciary emphasizing that his visit was impromptu.
The event was graced with guests who wore black suits, white shirts and black ties, including the President.
“It is not out of disrespect that I am dressed like this. It has nothing to do with what I said before…but I want to say that with respect and have the highest regard of our judicial system,” he said.
During his speech, DP Ruto affirmed the executive’s support to the judiciary despite their utterances in the past.
In 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated they will deal with the Judiciary and “revisit” their case after the Supreme Court nullified his August presidential election victory.
