DPP receives two title deeds for construction of ODPP offices in Lamu

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga Wednesday received two title deeds from the Governor of Lamu County, Issa Timamy marking a major milestone in strengthening the presence and operational capacity of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in the region.

The two parcels of land, located in Mukowe and Hindi towns, have been allocated for the construction of ODPP offices and staff quarters.

The development is expected to enhance service delivery, promote efficiency, and provide a conducive working environment for prosecutors stationed in Lamu County.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, DPP Ingonga expressed his deep appreciation to Governor Timamy and the County Government of Lamu for their continued support and collaboration.

He noted that securing land for the establishment of permanent ODPP offices is a significant step towards realizing the office’s broader goal of decentralizing services and improving access to justice across the country.

“It reflects a strong partnership and shared commitment to justice, accountability, and effective service delivery,” said the DPP.

The two leaders also discussed potential areas of cooperation between the ODPP and the County Government.

Timamy emphasized the importance of enhancing legal awareness among county enforcement officers and requested the ODPP to conduct training sessions to help the officers differentiate between criminal and civil matters in the course of their duties.

“Proper understanding of the law by our enforcement team will help promote fairness, reduce conflicts, and ensure that due process is followed in all enforcement activities,” Timamy noted.

The initiative aligns with the ODPP’s strategic focus on institutional strengthening, inter-agency collaboration, and building partnerships that promote efficient, fair, and transparent prosecution services across all regions of Kenya.
