Dylan Larkin is an American professional ice hockey player, born on July 30, 1996, in Waterford, Michigan.
As the captain of the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL), Larkin has established himself as a dynamic center known for his speed, skill, and leadership.
Drafted 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, he has become a cornerstone of the franchise, embodying the grit and pride of a Michigan native playing for his hometown team.

Colin’s professional career included a stint in the ECHL with the Wichita Thunder during the 2018-19 season, where he scored two goals and recorded 14 assists.
Additionally, he briefly played for the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, scoring his first professional goal in his second game.
Career
Larkin’s hockey journey began in Michigan’s youth leagues, where he played for Detroit Belle Tire and participated in the 2009 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.
He honed his skills with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), skating for the U17 and U18 teams.
During the 2012-13 season, he scored 13 goals and 14 assists in 55 games with the U17 team, and in 2013-14, he tallied 31 goals and 25 assists in 60 games with the U18 team.
His performance earned him a spot in the 2013 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, where he recorded a goal and an assist.
Larkin then attended the University of Michigan, playing one season (2014-15) for the Wolverines.
There, he led all Big Ten freshmen with 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists), earning accolades such as Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-American honors.
His NHL debut came on October 9, 2015, with the Detroit Red Wings, where he scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-0 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, becoming the first Red Wings teenager to record a point in his debut since Steve Yzerman.
Larkin’s rookie season (2015-16) was remarkable, leading the team with 23 goals and finishing with 45 points, earning NHL Rookie of the Month honors in November.
Named captain in 2021, he signed an eight-year, \$69.6 million contract extension in 2023, solidifying his role as the face of the Red Wings.

In the NHL, Larkin was named to the 2016 NHL All-Star Game, where he set a record as the fastest skater in the SuperSkills Competition with a time of 13.172 seconds, breaking Mike Gartner’s previous mark.
He was voted the 2016 Detroit Red Wings Rookie of the Year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association.
Internationally, Larkin earned a gold medal at the 2014 IIHF World U18 Championships, where he served as an alternate captain, and a bronze medal at the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
He was also named Team USA’s MVP at the 2015 World Junior Championship, leading the team with seven points in five games.
