The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) top officials met Wednesday to explore innovative strategies for embedding ethics and integrity into Kenya’s education curriculum.

EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud and his team met with KICD’s Prof. Charles Ochieng’ Ong’ondo for the strategic meeting that officials said was key in the fight against graft.

Officials said this initiative is part of the commission’s broader commitment to combat corruption and unethical conduct by targeting the formative years of youth development, recognizing that the early instillation of values profoundly shapes character.

The meeting underscored the critical importance of value-based education as a formidable tool against corruption and moral decay in society.

“The two leaders emphasized that by integrating ethics and integrity into the curriculum, Kenya can empower its youth with the essential knowledge and values necessary for ethical living, which would enable them to navigate contemporary challenges and resist the temptations of corruption,” a statement said.

The CEOs committed to enhancing collaboration between EACC and KICD in pursuit of comprehensive value-based education in Kenyan schools, which inspires students to value integrity.

The two agencies will explore various initiatives, including conducting studies on state ethics education in schools, curriculum review, and the development of integrity materials tailored for different learning stages.

The meeting comes in the wake of new efforts to address graft which is seen as one of the most dangerous vice in the country.

As part of the strategies, Mohamed had last week met the Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja.

The IG was accompanied by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, and other senior officials.

The leaders discussed critical strategies for preventing corruption in the operations of the National Police Service.

Police are usually ranked as the most corrupt institution in the country.
