The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok on suspicion of misappropriating county funds.

On Thursday morning, the EACC confirmed to Citizen Digital that Barchok was arrested, and agents conducted a search at his home.

This action is part of a broader investigation into claims of conflict of interest and the embezzlement of public funds in Bomet County, where the Governor is a key suspect.

After processing, Barchok will be taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru to record his statement.

In November 2024, a group of Bomet lawmakers urged the EACC to look into Barchok for the alleged mismanagement of county funds.

At that time, the commission was already investigating eight officials from Bomet County in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Sh1.5 billion.

The EACC was focusing on CECs, Chief Officers, and senior county officials in relation to the embezzlement, which involved fraudulent payments to companies believed to be owned by unnamed county officials.
