EACC arrests three Garissa County officials in Sh51 million fraud probe

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives arrested a serving Member of County Assembly and two former senior officials of the County Government of Garissa over alleged fraudulent payments amounting to Sh51.4 million.

The suspects were Monday expected in court to face charges, officials said.

They spent the nights in cells pending the arraignment.

Those arrested are Abdi Ibrahim Daar – Member of County Assembly (MCA), Balambala Ward, Mohamud Dubow Korane – former Director of Accounting Services, County Government of Garissa and Yussuf Bethe Ali – former Senior Principal Economist, County Government of Garissa.

The trio was arrested on February 22, 2026 following investigations into suspected irregular payments amounting to Sh51.4 million from the county government.

They were scheduled to be arraigned before the Garissa Law Courts for plea taking on Monday.

The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the anti-graft agency to clamp down on corruption and misuse of public funds within county governments.

EACC has been staging operations in various places in efforts to address rising rate of corruption. The graft is happening both in national and county governments levels, investigations show.

Insiders say they the teams have dozens of cases that are pending under probe for now.
