The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives Wednesday grilled Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo in connection with allegations of corruption and economic crimes.

Nyaribo had been summoned to EACC.

“The Commission is amenable to your request to reschedule Governor’s interview and statement recording. Subsequently, the interview has been rescheduled to 17th December 2025 at 10:00 am, to be held at our Nairobi Integrity Centre offices located at Jakaya Kikwete/Valley road Junction,” read part of the summons dated December 8, 2025.

Nyaribo appeared at the EACC Headquarters Integrity Center in Nairobi in the company of his lawyers for interview and statement recording regarding alleged irregular procurement and award of a contract for the construction of the Nyamira County Government offices valued at Sh382 million.

The contract was awarded to Spentech Engineering Limited and is alleged to have been paid amounts in excess of the work completed.

EACC is also investigating allegations that Nyaribo irregularly authorized payments to himself totaling Sh18 million, concealed as “ex gratia” payment and house allowance reimbursement.

The grilling follows simultaneous search operations conducted on October 29, 2025 in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi Counties, targeting residences and offices of several county officials identified as persons of interest in the ongoing investigations.

The searches targeted the residences and offices of several county officials identified as persons of interest in the matter.

The raids were conducted in Nairobi and rural homes and offices of the persons.

They included Nyaribo, Lameck Machuki Nyariki, (Director, Housing and Physical Planning), Peris Mose (Director, Roads (formerly Head of Procurement), Asberth Maobe (Chief Officer, Finance and Accounting Services) and Josphat Oruru (Chief Officer, Roads, Transport & Public Works).

The searches were conducted simultaneously in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi Counties with the objective of recovering documents and digital evidence relevant to the investigations.

There was no immediate comment from the affected persons.
