A 78-year-old man was brutally murdered in his farm in Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County, in an attack that police believe may be linked to a planned land transaction.

The deceased, identified as Charo Kambi Mwambire, was found dead with deep cuts to the head at his shamba, about 500 metres from his home in Marikebuni Sub-location.

According to police, the incident was reported on Friday.

Preliminary investigations established that at around 12:30 p.m., two unidentified young men visited Mwambire’s home looking for him but found he was absent. They reportedly returned at about 4 p.m., when the elderly man accompanied them to the farm, which he was allegedly in the process of selling.

A short while later, Mwambire was found lying dead with severe head injuries believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object.

Police officers from Gongoni Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited and documented the scene before moving the body to the Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

No arrests have been made, and police have launched investigations to identify and apprehend the attackers, as they seek to establish the motive behind the killing.

Such murder incidents targeting the old have been on the rise amid efforts to address them.

And police in Igembe South Sub-County, Meru County, are investigating the suspected murder of a 35-year-old woman who allegedly identified her husband as her attacker shortly before collapsing and dying.

The incident occurred in Manu Village, Kiamuringa Location on Friday.

According to the police the deceased, identified only as Karimi, arrived at a home at around 4:30 a.m. while complaining of severe pain. She allegedly told the owner that she had been seriously assaulted by her husband.

The woman reportedly asked for water but collapsed and died before it could be given to her.

Police officers who visited the scene found the body with a swollen neck and bruises on the upper lip, injuries that prompted investigators to treat the case as a suspected murder.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Nyambene Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have launched investigations into the incident, including the allegations against the deceased’s husband. No arrest was indicated in the initial police report.
