Police launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man following the suspected murder of his 79-year-old relative in Gem Yala Sub-County, Siaya County.
The victim, Monicah Mamba Adipo, was found dead inside her three-roomed mud house in Konjera Village on Wednesday morning after family members became concerned when she failed to wake up.
Police officers visited the scene and found the elderly woman’s body lying half-naked on her bed.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased’s son, told police that on the evening of July 14, a cousin who had recently returned to the village after being away for some time, sought accommodation at the victim’s home because he had no house within the family compound.
The suspect was allowed to spend the night and reportedly slept on a couch in the sitting room.
At around 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday, the son became concerned after his mother failed to wake up as usual. When she did not respond to knocks on the door, he walked around the house and found the back door wide open. Upon entering, he discovered her lifeless body on the bed while the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Police observed strangulation marks on the victim’s neck. Her second toe on the right foot had also been severed, apparently using a sharp object.
Crime scene investigators processed the scene before the body was moved to Yala Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched a search for the suspect as investigations into the suspected murder continue.
Elsewhere, police in Limuru, Kiambu County, launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 67-year-old man whose body was found inside a hotel room following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend.
The deceased, identified as Moses Ndenderu Njuguna, was discovered dead in Room 209 at Sixty-Four Lounge and Restaurant in Limuru Town on Wednesday morning.
A team of officers led by the station’s orderly officer visited the scene and found Njuguna’s body lying on its back, with his head slightly inclined to the right. Police observed blood oozing from his nostrils and a deep cut on his swollen right eyelid.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had checked into the room with his girlfriend on Friday, July 10, and remained there until he was found dead early Wednesday. Police suspect the death followed an altercation between the two inside the room.
Crime scene investigators documented the scene and recovered blood-stained duvets, pillows and floor mats, which were retained as exhibits.
The body was moved to Tigoni Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have arrested two suspects including a woman who was in the room with the deceased, and the hotel’s manager pending further investigations and processing.
