Elkana Jacob Foundation recognised for peace and community work in Nyali
The Elkana Jacob Foundation was recognised by the NyaliSub-County Peace and Cohesion Committee for its contribution to peacebuilding, youth engagement and community cohesion.
The foundation received a Certificate of Appreciation on Monday, September 21, 2026, during activities marking the International Day of Peace in Nyali.
The certificate cites the foundation’s support for youth empowerment, sustainable peace integration and the 2025 and 2026 International Day of Peace celebrations. It also recognisesits support for peace and cohesion activities, including integration and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) training.
The 2026 International Day of Peace is being observed under the theme “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”The United Nations says the theme highlights the role of communities and individuals in building peace through everyday action
The recognition comes as the Elkana Jacob Foundation continues to undertake community-based programmes in Nyali.
The foundation says its work focuses on peacebuilding, poverty reduction, education, healthcare and environmental conservation. Its stated programmes include support for vulnerable families, education initiatives, youth empowerment, tree planting and environmental activities.
Among the initiatives associated with the foundation are support for widows, elderly people and orphans, including assistance with housing. The foundation has also supported students with school fees and provided food to orphanages and other community members.
Its environmental programmes include tree-planting activities and community clean-up exercises.
“This recognition is well deserved because the Elkana Jacob Foundation has consistently supported people who need help most. We have seen its work with vulnerable families, young people and the wider community and we congratulate the foundation for being recognised for its contribution to peace and cohesion,” said Terryani Mwadzaya, a Nyali resident.
The foundation has also been involved in youth-focused programmes aimed at promoting social responsibility, education and community participation.
In 2025, the foundation was linked to efforts to engage vulnerable young people through economic empowerment initiatives. It has also worked with religious leaders on programmes targeting young people.
In January 2026, the foundation partnered with Muslim leaders in Nyali in support of an Islamic Qur’anic and knowledge competition targeting young people across the constituency’s five wards.
Organisers said the programme was intended to promote youth engagement, character development, unity and social responsibility.
The foundation has also supported initiatives aimed at helping residents access government services, including national identification and birth registration services.
“The work being done by the foundation goes beyond giving assistance. Initiatives such as tree planting, clean-up exercises, education support and peace programmes bring people together and give young people a sense of belonging. We congratulate Elkana Jacob Foundation and encourage it to continue with the same spirit,” said Daudi Mwakazi, another Nyali resident.
Peace actors recognise community role
The certificate was presented during a peace event attended by Nyali Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Dr John Maguta Kibe, Assistant County Commissioner JacklineChepkemoi and other peace and community actors.
The day’s activities included a peace procession through parts of Nyali before participants proceeded to the chief’s office in Mkomani.
The procession continued despite a brief heavy downpour, with participants completing the planned route.
Chairperson of the Nyali Peace and Cohesion Committee Mwanajuma Suleiman commended organisations supporting peace and cohesion initiatives in the sub-county.
“I am calling upon such organisations, including the ElkanaJacob Foundation and the Kenya Peace and Security Support Initiative, to plan and organise peace training across Nyali Sub-County,” she said.
Other peace actors at the event included Christine Khabuya of Amkeni Community Organisation, Nicholas of KEKOSCE, Faith Mwanimo of Mombasa Youth Assembly and NahidaKassim of Vocal Africa, according to organisers.
Foundation Chairman Rashid Mfano said the recognition was a reflection of the foundation’s community work and thanked residents and partners involved in its programmes.
The foundation is associated with Elkana Jacob, a media practitioner and political aspirant who has declared interest in the Nyali parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. His public activities in Nyali have included community initiatives and engagements with residents. Recent posts associated with him have also highlighted peace, unity and access to government services.
