Ex-CS Rashid Echesa Demands An Apology From The Star Over Alleged Defamatory Story

Former Sports, Culture and Heritage Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Echesa, through his advocate, has issued a notice of intention to sue The Star for defamatory publications against him.

In the notice, seen by Kahawa Tungu, the CS has raised concern over an article published on March 6,2019 titled, “Echesa Sack Not Plot to Exclude Luhya – Atwoli,” with the tagline,”I Cursed Him and Less Than Three Months Later He’s in Trouble.”

The notice sternly condemn the publication of the article asserting that it posted “many willfully false and misleading comments about our client.”

In the article, the publication noted that Echesa was sacked as a result of his alleged involvement in corruption and that his appointment as a CS was a “reward” and was not based on qualifications.

Claims that the CS’s lawyer Osundwa Sakwa has refuted in the notice stating that Echesa was relieved of his duties as Cabinet Secretary through an Executive Order No.3 of 2019 issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Part of the notice states: “Our client’s former Cabinet position is now being held by Amina C. Mohammed, EGH.

“In terminating our clients; engagement as Cabinet Secretary, His Excellency the President of the Republic pf Kenya provided no reason on his decision,” the notice reads.

Following the claims, Echesa has now demanded for an apology from the publication before close of business of March 8,2019.

Through his advocate, he has also demanded the removal of the article and any other defamatory remarks made concerning the former CS from all their websites, archives and other online platforms.

“Cease and desist in publishing defamatory statements about our client, whether the statements are made by you or third parties.

“Admit liability for defaming our client and thereafter we shall quantify damages,” affirmed the lawyer.

Echesa was sacked by President Kenyatta during the recent Cabinet Reshuffle that saw Amb Amina Mohammed moved to his former position while Prof George Magoha being promoted to head the Education Ministry.
