A former University of Nairobi student was on Tuesday arrested for impersonating National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale on social media.

James Oire Ombui is said to have obtained money by false pretense on Facebook.

Ombui opened a Facebook page in the name of Duale where he asked unsuspecting Kenyans for Sh2,000 in order for them to access 10,000 scholarships set aside for students across the country.

The ex-student according to the DCI asked to receive the monies via his two mobile phones; 0720886964 and 0722134712.

The suspect was nabbed in Nakuru and is being held at the Central Police Station, Nairobi.

“He was arrested in Nakuru and brought to central police station after a complaint was made against him,” Central Police Station police boss Peter Atavashi said.

Duale advised his followers to ignore the messages circulating online.

“Members of the public are advised to ignore messages circulating on social media indicating that the Office of the Majority Leader of the National Assembly of Kenya, Hon. Aden Duale is offering 10,000 scholarships to students across the country…” he wrote on Twitter.
