Facebook goes down for users

Facebook users in Kenya reported difficulties accessing the social media platform on Sunday afternoon, August 16, 2026, for some minutes.

Users reported problems accessing Facebook through both the website and mobile application, with the platform failing to load normally.

Some users attempting to access Facebook through the mobile app were presented with an “Open Network Settings” message despite having active mobile data bundles or being connected to Wi-Fi.

Others reported that the Facebook website failed to load completely when accessed through web browsers.

The outage appeared to affect multiple users, although the extent and cause of the disruption were not immediately clear.

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, had not immediately issued a statement explaining the reported disruption.

The incident comes as Facebook remains one of the most widely used social media platforms in Kenya, serving millions of users for communication, news, business and other online activities.
