Residents of Mwingi Town are gripped by fear following the discovery of human remains in a shallow grave, raising concerns that the site could be linked to multiple killings.

The remains were discovered on Tuesday, prompting local police and officers to cordon off the area as investigations commenced.

Security officers are maintaining a guard at the scene overnight to preserve evidence and prevent interference.

The discovery has reignited concerns among residents because it comes barely a month after the bodies of a man and a woman were found dumped in the same area.

The female victim was reportedly mutilated and missing her head.

Authorities did not publicly identify the two victims, leading to speculation that people may be being killed elsewhere and their bodies disposed of in the outskirts of Mwingi.

Investigators are now seeking to establish whether the newly discovered remains are connected to the earlier cases and whether additional bodies could be buried at the site.

A specialized homicide team from Nairobi is expected to arrive with a court order to oversee the exhumation process. The operation is expected to determine the number of victims buried at the location and provide crucial forensic evidence to guide the investigation.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains or whether there is evidence of a serial offender.

Authorities are urging the public to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work.

The discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents demanding answers and heightened security as investigators work to unravel the mystery surrounding the suspected burial site.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman was brutally murdered and dismembered in a suspected domestic violence incident at Kio Village in Kipkewa Sub-location, Kuresoi North Sub-County, Nakuru County.

According to police, the victim, identified as Everline Nyarinda, was allegedly killed by her husband on the evening of June 6, 2026.

The incident was reported to Kuresoi Police Station after members of the public alerted authorities.

Investigators established that the suspect fled immediately after the incident and remains at large.

Police reported that the victim’s body had been dismembered, with the remains placed in five cement bags. Her blood had reportedly been collected in a five-litre plastic container found at the scene.

A blood-stained axe, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered and preserved as an exhibit alongside other items of evidential value.

Crime scene personnel photographed and processed the scene before the remains were transferred to the mortuary at the Kericho County Referral Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the murder continue.
