Finneas Baird O’Connell, known professionally as Finneas or FINNEAS, is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and actor.
Born on July 30, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, he grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood.
His parents are actress, screenwriter, and musician Maggie Baird and actor and musician Patrick O’Connell.
Of Irish and Scottish descent, Finneas was homeschooled by his parents, who encouraged creative pursuits.
He began writing and producing music around age 12 after taking a songwriting class with his mother.
Early in his career he also pursued acting, appearing in the film Bad Teacher, the independent drama Life Inside Out (alongside his mother), the television series Glee as Alistair, and guest roles on Modern Family.
Siblings
Finneas has one sibling, his younger sister Billie Eilish, whose full name is Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell.
Born on December 18, 2001, she is about four and a half years younger. The siblings share a famously close bond and have collaborated extensively throughout their careers.
Finneas has co-written and produced every major project for Billie, beginning with the 2015 SoundCloud release of “Ocean Eyes,” a song he originally wrote for his own band that became her breakthrough hit.
Their professional partnership has defined much of contemporary pop, with the two often describing each other as best friends as well as creative partners.
Career
Finneas first gained attention as an actor in his teens before shifting primary focus to music. He fronted the band the Slightlys and released early solo singles starting with “New Girl” in 2016.

His career accelerated through collaboration with Billie Eilish.
He co-wrote and produced her debut EP Don’t Smile at Me (2017) and her landmark debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019), much of which was recorded in his childhood bedroom.
He continued as primary producer and co-writer on her subsequent albums Happier Than Ever (2021) and Hit Me Hard and Soft (2024).
Beyond his sister’s work, Finneas has produced and written for artists including Selena Gomez (notably the number-one hit “Lose You to Love Me”), Camila Cabello, Halsey, Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Kid Cudi, and others.
He has also contributed film scores, including for The Fallout and Vengeance.
As a solo artist he released the EP Blood Harmony in 2019, which featured the alternative hit “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night.”
His debut studio album Optimist arrived in 2021 via Interscope Records, followed by the second album For Cryin’ Out Loud! in 2024.
He has performed headlining tours in support of these projects and remains active both as a collaborator and independent artist.
In addition, he has been involved in the band the Favors.
Accolades
Finneas has received extensive recognition for his songwriting and production.
He is the recipient of eleven Grammy Awards, including Producer of the Year, Non-Classical (making him the youngest winner in that category), Record of the Year (twice), Album of the Year, Song of the Year (three times, tying the all-time record with Billie Eilish), Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.
He has earned two Academy Awards for Best Original Song – for “No Time to Die” (from the James Bond film of the same name) in 2022 and “What Was I Made For?” (from Barbie) in 2024 – along with two corresponding Golden Globe Awards.
With Billie Eilish he became one of the youngest two-time Academy Award winners.
Additional honors include wins from the Critics’ Choice Awards, ASCAP, and Apple Music, among others.
