Fire destroys property worth Sh300 million at Eastleigh hardware shop

A fire that broke out at a hardware shop in Eastleigh, Nairobi, destroyed property estimated at Sh300 million on Friday.
The fire started at around 4 pm at Au Glazier Paint and Hardware, located along 3rd Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue, according to the owner.
Police officers responded to the incident and confirmed that the fire had spread rapidly, consuming the building from the ground floor up to the second floor.
A Nairobi County fire engine, assisted by members of the public, managed to contain the blaze by around 9 pm, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
No casualties had been reported by the time of the police report. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
The scene was documented by the Crime Scene Investigation team from Starehe as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, a 59-year-old woman died after allegedly being assaulted by her son in Nyamira County.
Agnes Moraa Kennedy was reportedly hit on the head by her son, at around 8:30pm on August 4, 2026.
The incident was reported at Bosamaro Police Station, after which Moraa was rushed to Jiron Hospital in Kisii for treatment.
She succumbed to her injuries at the facility at around 2pm on August 7, police said.
Her body was preserved at the hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
The suspect, who was arrested by members of the public at around 12:40am on August 5, is being held at Nyamira Police Station pending arraignment in court.
Police also recovered a wooden rod allegedly used in the assault, which has been preserved as an exhibit as investigations continue.
