Civilian firearm dealers, gun holders and shooting range owners have been ordered to undergo fresh vetting with effectiveness from December 17, 2018.

In a statement shared from the Ministry of Internal Security, the board announced that they will carry out a 90-day rigorous verification exercise of all firearms and the certificates in the country.

Firearm holders have been ordered to produce their guns and certificates for authentication. Upon verification, they will be issued with new smart licences.

Anyone in possession of an illegal firearm have been asked to surrender the guns, failure to which they will face the law.

Any civilian in possession of any prohibited firearm must surrender it to the Government within this period notwithstanding the authenticity of the licence.

The vetting will go on for 90 days, and so is the surrender of illegal weapons.

Failure to comply to the deadline set for Mach 17, they will be deemed to have acquired it illegally.
