FKF and SJAK Mourn Veteran Football Commentator Diblo Kaberia

The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have mourned the death of veteran radio presenter and Swahili football commentator Diblo Kaberia, also known as Paul Kimani Kaberia.

In a statement on Sunday, May 24, 2026, SJAK President James Waindi said Kaberia died early in the morning while receiving treatment at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital after a short illness.

SJAK described Kaberia as a brilliant journalist whose energetic presentation style and distinctive voice made him one of the most recognisable Swahili football commentators in the country.

At the time of his death, Kaberia was a presenter at Radio Jambo, where he built a strong following among football fans through his passionate match commentary and storytelling on air.

“Until his untimely demise, Kaberia was a vibrant Radio Presenter at Radio Jambo, where his passion for sports, infectious energy, and distinct voice resonated with millions of sports fans across the country,” the statement read.

SJAK noted that beyond his radio career, Kaberia was an active member of the association and a key figure in SJAK FC, where he was admired for his teamwork and camaraderie.

“We have lost not just a brilliant journalist, but a brother and a teammate whose passion for the game was evident in everything he did,” the statement added, extending condolences to his family, colleagues at Radio Africa Group, and friends across the media industry.

FKF also joined the national football community in mourning Kaberia, describing him as a commentator whose voice became synonymous with Kenyan football.

In its tribute, FKF said Kaberia’s energetic commentary helped bring local matches to life and strengthened the connection between fans and the game.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched through his remarkable work,” FKF said.
