Flood Death Toll Hits 112 as Police Issue Easter Safety Advisory

The National Police Service issued a nationwide safety advisory as heavy rains continue to batter several parts of the country, leaving at least 112 people dead as of April 3, 2026.

In a statement released during the Easter holiday period, the police warned that the ongoing downpours have heightened risks for both motorists and pedestrians, especially amid increased travel across the country.
Hundreds others have been displaced in the chaos.
Spokesman Michael Muchiri urged Kenyans to exercise caution and remain vigilant, noting that a combination of adverse weather conditions and high human movement could lead to more casualties if safety measures are ignored.

Motorists were advised to drive with extreme care by observing speed limits, maintaining safe following distances, and avoiding flooded roads.
They were also encouraged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting out.

Pedestrians were cautioned to remain alert, particularly in flood-prone areas and places with reduced visibility.

The police further called on the public to cooperate with authorities as efforts continue to repair damaged infrastructure, including roads and drainage systems, warning against accessing restricted or high-risk zones.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the National Police Service emphasized that public responsibility and adherence to safety advisories are critical in preventing further loss of life during the ongoing rains.
