Water supply was disrupted in several estates across Nairobi after heavy overnight rains and flooding damaged key distribution pipelines, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced.
In a public notice issued on Saturday, the utility said the intense rainfall caused flooding that damaged multiple water lines, interrupting supply to thousands of residents in the eastern and western parts of the city.
Among the affected infrastructure is the Outering Road pipeline at the Nairobi River crossing, which has disrupted water supply to Buruburu Phase 1 and 2, Kariobangi South and North, Dandora 1, and parts of Mathare.
Another damaged line along the Eastleigh–Kiambiu pipeline has affected supply to Eastleigh Section 3, Kiambiu, Jerusalem, Uhuru, Jericho, Ofafa and Harambee estates.
Residents in Korogocho, parts of Dandora 1, and Kariobangi North are also experiencing shortages following damage to the Korogocho–Dandora pipeline.
In the western part of the city, damage to the Brookeside Drive distribution line between Lower Kabete and Matundu Close Junction has disrupted supply along Lower Kabete Lane, Lower Kabete Road, and parts of Brookeside Drive.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company said technical teams have been deployed to the affected sites to assess the damage and begin restoration works.
According to the company, flushing units, mobile workshops and cranes have already been dispatched to support repair operations, while engineers continue monitoring river crossings to prevent further damage.
The utility also noted that water treatment operations have been affected by debris clogging the Mwagu intake, which supplies the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant, one of the main treatment facilities serving the capital.
Efforts to clear the intake and restore normal treatment operations are ongoing.
The company has apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for patience from customers as teams work to restore normal water supply.
