President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked his personal friend and Nairobi County Governor, Mike Sonko to set aside the political sideshows and instead serve the people of Nairobi who voted for him overwhelmingly in August, 2017.

Kenyatta jetted in from South Africa on Sunday after which Sonko called him to let him know that his deputy, Polycarp Igathe had called it quits effective, 31 January.

A source privy to the details says that it was a lengthy conversation between the county boss and the head of state.

”Sonko is a personal friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto. They talked at length. Uhuru urged Sonko to focus on service delivery,” the source divulged.

Igathe, in his resignation letter said that he had failed to earn Sonko’s trust in driving the county’s agenda.

But in a leaked phone conversation, the DG was in good terms with his boss. In the audio, Sonko asks his deputy to avail himself for an interview at NTV, hosted by Mark Maasai.

What took the people by surprise is that Igathe, during the interview defended the county government so well and the resigned four hours later.

Word however has it that it has not always been smooth sailing between the two, with some saying that the two almost came to blows behind closed doors at City Hall.
