Mary Chebukati Wanyonyi, the wife of former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati, has been awarded one of the country’s top national honours — the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (C.B.S.).
She is among 81 recipients recognised this year.
President William Ruto presented the awards on Friday, December 12, during the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Several prominent leaders were also honoured with the C.B.S., including Siria MP John Waluke, Bungoma Senator Wakoli David Wafula, Muli Fabian Kyule, Maisori Marwa Kemero Kitayama, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, Buuri MP Rindikiri Mugambi, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, Tiaty MP William Kamket, and Gatundu North MP James Githua Wamacukuru, among others.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Dorcas Oduor and Cabinet Secretaries William Kabogo, Lee Kinyajui and Deborah Barasa were among seven leaders awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H.), one of Kenya’s highest state honours.
Others who received the E.G.H. were Dr. Pratt Kristina Kenyatta, Ole Ntutu Patrick Keturet and Dr. Jaffer Mohamed Husein.
Oduor, Kabogo and Kinyajui were appointed under the government’s broad-based unity arrangement. Kabogo serves as the Cabinet Secretary for ICT, while Kinyajui heads the Trade Ministry.
Additionally, President Ruto awarded Lt. Gen. Ketter David Kipkemboi and Maj. Gen. Waliaula Bernard the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (M.G.H.), the third class of the national honour.
