Former Kajiado Woman Rep Janet Teyiaa Dies

Former Kajiado County Woman Representative Janet Marania Teyiaa has passed away. Her death was confirmed on Monday, April 7, by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who expressed shock at the news.
Gachagua, who served with her in the 12th Parliament, remembered Teyiaa as a resilient leader who overcame disability to represent her people.
“I served with Janet in the 12th Parliament when she represented the people of Kajiado County as a Woman Representative,” he said in a message on social media.
Teyiaa began her political journey in 2013 as a nominated MP and was later elected in 2017 to serve as Kajiado Woman Representative.
A person living with disability, Gachagua recalled how she was rescued by a social worker as a young girl and rose to leadership, becoming a voice for people with disabilities.
“Janet brimmed with resilience and showed that nothing can stop a determined spirit from achieving their dreams,” Gachagua said.
Although the cause of her death was not disclosed, he praised her efforts in championing the rights of people living with disabilities. In 2022, Teyiaa stepped aside from politics and supported a candidate from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
