Former Shinyalu MP Daniel Khamasi Dies

Daniel Liula Khamasi, the former Member of Parliament for Shinyalu Constituency in Kakamega County, has died.
Reports indicate he passed away while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Khamasi served as the MP for Shinyalu from 1997 to 2007. He was first elected on a Ford-Kenya ticket in 1997 and was reâelected in 2002 on a NARC ticket, before losing the seat in the 2007 elections.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa mourned Khamasi, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose leadership contributed to the development of Shinyalu and the wider Kakamega County.
“On behalf of the people of Kakamega County, I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Shinyalu. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Governor Barasa said.
Khamasi was known locally for his work in Parliament and his engagement in community matters during his two terms as MP.
His death comes days after the death of former Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency Cyrus Jirongo, who served between 1997 and 2002 and subsequently between 2007 and 2013.
Jirongo died in a traffic collision in Naivasha, Kenya, on 13 December 2025, at the age of 64. On 16 December 2025, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced the launch of its investigation into his death.
He will be buried today, December 30, 2025.
