The 72 year old driver, Lucas Asang’asa, who caused the accident that killed, now 58 people, in the Fort Ternan accident succumbed to his injuries.

Lucas was behind the wheel on the fateful Tuesday- Wednesday drive to Kakamega.

Passengers had accused him of being reckless in driving the 62-seater that crashed and not paying attention to road signs and regulations.

From witness reports, Lucas started the journey well but was called back to go and carry more passengers from a different bus and as soon as they passed Naivasha he started over-speeding.

According to the Nation, Lucas was born in Vihiga County in 1946 and had about 50 years of experience driving on Kenyan roads.

The 72 year old is said to have had no reliever since he had been driving through the day from Kisumu to Nairobi, and immediately took another trip to head back to Kakamega.

Reports say that he may have been suffering from fatigue and lack of enough sleep, contributing heavily to the cause of the accident.

He died together with other passengers during the crash.

Lucas had four wives and together they reportedly had 20 children.
