Relatives to the victims of the Fort Ternan crash have cries foul as they are yet to receive the money that was collected by the county government on their behalf to sort funeral expenses.
They said that about Sh.7 million was collected at the requiem mass. They have camped at the Muliro gardens in Kakamega to demand for their money so that they can clear funeral debt expenses for their loved ones.
They also claimed that the 58 bags of maize that the Deputy President had donated, Rose Shilwatso who lost her daughter said that they was nobody to account for the bags of maize.
“We were warned against pursuing the matter further. We were told that it was not a guarantee that they would be given the 58 bags from the DP,” Ms Shilwatso told the Standard.
However the governor Wycliffe Oparanya dismissed claims by the relatives stating that claimed the money were imposters as the matter had already been closed as families of the bereaved received Sh.50000 for the funeral. He said that the president’s contribution of Sh. 2.5 million was not received by the county government.

He also said that his county commissioner Abdiruzak Jaldesa was following up on the matter. Mr Jaldesa said that the only funds he received were from the National Disaster Centre who sent Sh 50000 which was used to pay mortuary fees in Kericho and the remainder handed over to the families.
He said that the governor of Kericho county did not waive the mortuary fees as he ahed promised and that the money should be refunded if the governor insists he did.
