Four police officers were arrested in connection with a violent robbery incident involving millions of shillings in Nairobi.
One of them is attached to the office of the Deputy President and had on Tuesday been arrested in a different failed robbery incident in Kitengela Town, Kajiado County.
Police said two of the officers are attached to Muungano police station in Machakos County and one to Elwak police station in Mandera County.
The arrest which happened in Embakasi was a second one in two days.
The suspects were apprehended on Thursday and detained at Embakasi Police Station pending arraignment.
The officers are linked to a robbery with violence case reported on March 18, 2026, where a complainant who is a businessman and proprietor of Eastern Steel Mart based in Utawala, told investigators that he had withdrawn Sh4.2 million from Equity Bank Utawala branch on March 17, 2026.
The money was intended for a business transaction with Iron Era Limited in Syokimau.
While driving along Mombasa Road towards his destination, the victim was intercepted near Gateway Mall by four men dressed in police uniforms and reflective jackets.
Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with pistols.
The gang, believed to have been trailing him from the bank using a red Mazda CX-5, accused him of trafficking narcotics, handcuffed him, and forced him into their vehicle.
They then stole the cash and later abandoned him in the Karen area, Nairobi, police said.
The victim managed to report the matter at Karen Police Station before the case was transferred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi.
The four officers were positively identified during an identification parade conducted at Isinya Police Station on Thursday.
They were subsequently presented before the Kajiado Magistrate’s Court and are expected to be arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Police say investigations are ongoing.
In the Kitengela saga, a civilian mentioned in the same managed to escape and is being sought.
The civilian is said to have lured a foreigner and roughed him up before their tricks were bursted.
The officers were part of a group that had tricked a Congolese man and tried to steal his diamond made necklace.
The victim said he was tricked and moved from Namanga to Kitengela to sell the chain to a potential buyer.
On reaching Kitengela, he said, he was attacked and handcuffed prompting him to scream, which attracted a mob.
Police said the mob took the said suspects to the local station only to learn they were serving police officers.
They were found to be police officers based in Nairobi and Kitengela. The victim said he lost the necklace which he valued at USD1905, USD3,000 and 300 Euros in the drama.
The officers were put under probe, police said. Police termed the incident as isolated and revealed they will be charged with robbery with violence.
Cases where police are involved in crime have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them.
Police authorities have been insisting the incidents are isolated and that they have mechanisms of addressing them.
Dozens of police officers are facing cases in courts and internally for being involved in crime.
Police spokesman Michael Muchiri said like in any society, one can’t miss having rogue officers.
He added their mechanisms are handling the cases so far reported and encouraged the public to lodge complaints against the police whenever they are affected.
