Acting CS Interior and Coordination Ministry, Dr Fred Matiang’i has declared 1 September 2017 a holiday but only for the Muslims.

He directed that employers allow Muslims to be away from work for Idd-Ul-Adha.

“Employers should allow them to be away from work but for non-Muslims, this will be a normal working day,” he said.

Matiang’i also noted that plans were underway for it to be listed for all including the non-muslims.

”The holiday is listed as Muslim holiday but plans are underway for the Government to present a bill to Parliament to make it a National Public Holiday.”

It is celebrated worldwide each year to honour the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac as an act of obedience to God’s command. It is also known as ‘Sacrifice feast.’
