Gachagua receives nine Kajiado MCAs as DCP expands political base

Former Deputy President and Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has continued to expand the party’s political base in Kajiado County after receiving a group of MCAs who have defected from various political parties.

Gachagua said the latest defections had brought the DCP closer to achieving what he described as a 100 per cent presence in Kajiado County.

“This morning, I received into the DCP Party nine MCAs from Kajiado County who have decamped to the party from Jubilee, ODM and UDA,” Gachagua said.

He said the MCAs had made the decision after consulting their constituents and receiving what he described as clear instructions from the ground.

“I never asked the MCAs to listen to the ground; they are the ground themselves. They have told me that the ground is green,” Gachagua said.

According to the former Deputy President, the leaders told him that their constituents had instructed them to join a political party that listens to and responds to the aspirations of Kenyans.

“Our party continues to grow and expand significantly, with just one year to go before August 10, 2027,” he added.

The leaders who joined the DCP include Kajiado County Assembly Minority Leader Isaac Kiresian of Magadi Ward, who defected from ODM.

Other defectors are Joseph Torris of Ewuaso Oonkidongi Ward and Edward Lemomo of Kuku Ward, both from ODM.

Nominated MCA Caroline Ndeti of Kaputei North Ward also joined the DCP from Jubilee.

The other leaders who defected from UDA are Titus Matheka of Ongata Rongai Ward, John Maina Mutiga of Nkaimurunya Ward, nominated MCA Nais Naisiae Karia, and Marush Kisemei of Oloosirkon Sholinko Ward.

Mbiriri Mwaura of Ngong Ward also joined the DCP from UDA, while Peter Tirishe, an aspirant for Mosiro Ward, defected from ODM.

The MCAs were accompanied by DCP Narok Township Ward MCA Douglas Masikonde, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo and Kajiado Senator Kanar Seki.

The latest move comes as Gachagua seeks to strengthen the DCP’s presence across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The former Deputy President has recently received several leaders from different regions into the party, including MCAs from Laikipia County.

The DCP has also sought to build momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, with the party recently securing victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
