Girl killed, body dumped in dam in Nyandarua

Detectives are investigating an incident where a girl aged 11 was found murdered and her body dumped in a dam in Njambini, Nyandarua County.
The body of the girl was discovered in a dam in Shobe area, Munyaka hours after she had gone missing. The body was found naked, having been suspected to have been abused, and had a deep cut on the throat, police said.
The deceased was sent to a shop on May 24 and failed to return home. This prompted a search in the village until the following day, when the body was found in the dam.
The body was identified by her mother, the scene processed, and taken to the Engineer Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police visited the scene and established that a house opposite the dam, which is about 100 meters away and that was being used as a store and a toilet outside the compound was the probable crime scene.
This is after some traces of blood was found in one of the rooms. Police said they also found some pieces of clothes in the toilet after retrieving a piece of scarf the deceased was last seen wearing on her head.
The motive of the murder was not immediately established. Police said they are investigating the incident.
Elsewhere at Moi Girls Nyabohanse in Migori, a form two student died in unclear circumstances. The cause of the death of the student was not established.
The incident prompted a riot by other students at the school. The students damaged property before the situation was contained.
Police said about 20 students collapsed in shock and were treated at a local hospital after learning of the death of a fellow student.
A team of detectives is investigating the Sunday May 25 incident.
Some parents visited the school at night and Monday morning after learning of the riots and death.
