With the Government of Kenya continuously working to implement their National Trade Policy comes the introduction of an online platform aimed at helping traders apply their trade both locally and internationally.

Through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives comes the launch of the Kenya E-Trade portal which is part of a six month development plan that took place from March up until September this year.

The online portal was unveiled at the Intercontinental hotel in Nairobi. It aims at providing traders with the necessary rules and procedures that come with importing and exporting through the help of the National Trade Negotiations Council (NTNC).

“The Kenya E-Trade portal is one of the National trade policy’s envisioned immediate outputs and will be used as a tool to actualize vision 2030 aspirations,” said Chris Kiptoo, PS, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Co-operatives.

According to reports, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) are also set to benefit greatly from the access to international trade.

“The Trade Information Portal will be an online platform which provides a comprehensive, single-point access to up-to-date trade-related information mainly step-by-step guides to imports, exports and transit procedures. This will help current, potential traders and other stakeholders to access information that will assist them to make informed business decisions,” added Kiptoo.

The ministry says the portal will give traders information regarding import duties, target markets abroad, trade in services opportunities, information on Kenya’s suppliers of various goods and services.
