Governor Anne Waiguru Re-elected CoG Chair

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has been re-elected by consensus as Chair of the Council of Governors.

The former Devolution Cabinet Secretary will serve for a second consecutive term.

The county boss who is serving her second term was voted in on Monday, during the elections for the Executive and Technical Committee in Nairobi.

She previously served as the Council’s first female vice chairperson between December 2017 to January 2019.

She took over the reins from former Embu Governor Martin Wambora in 2022.

The previous CoG chairpersons are; Bomet’s Isaac Ruto (2013-2015), Meru’s Peter Munya (2015-2017), Turkana’s Josphat Nanok (2017-2019), Kakamega’s Wycliffe Oparanya (2019-2021) and Embu’s Martin Wambora (2021-2022).

Members present also elected Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi as the vice chair and Nandi’s Stephen Sang as the whip.

Various committees will be chaired by the following members;
1. Health Committee – Muthomi Njuki, Governor Tharaka Nithi County

  1. Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Committee – Kenneth Lusaka, Governor, Bungoma County
  2. Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) and Disaster Risk Management Committee – Nathif Jama, Governor, Garissa County

  3. Education Committee – Dr Erick Mutai, Kericho County

  4. Blue Economy Committee – Issa Timamy, Governor, Lamu County

  5. Tourism and Wildlife Committee – Patrick Ole Ntutu, Narok County

  6. Water, Forestry and Natural Resource Management Committee – Andrew Mwadime, Taita Taveta County

  7. Environment and Climate Change Committee – Wilber Ottichilo, Governor, Vihiga County

  8. Human Resource, Labour and Social Welfare Committee – Mutahi Kahiga, Nyeri County

  9. Finance, Planning and Economic Affairs Committee – Fernandes Barasa, Kakamega County

  10. Trade, Industry, Manufacturing and Enterprise Development Committee – Susan Kihika, Nakuru County

  11. Legal, Constitutional Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations Committee – Mutula Kilonzo JR, Makueni County

  12. Land, Housing and Urban Development Committee – Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, Kisumu County

  13. Energy, Transport and Infrastructure Committee – Kimani Wamatangi, Kiambu County

  14. Gender, Youth, Culture, Sports and Social Services Committee – Simon Kachapin, West Pokot County

  15. ICT and Knowledge Management Committee- Wisely Rotich, Elgeyo Marakwet County
